FUSION IP-Centrex Enables the Use of WiFi PhonesFusion Provides First Mobile IP-Centrex Solution Using 050 Numbers

Fusion Communications Corporation has made it possible to use mobile IP phone handsets (WiFi phones) that have been assigned a number beginning with the 050 prefix on a corporate wireless LAN that uses the FUSION IP-Centrex system.

Previous mobile IP-Centrex solutions allowed mobile IP phone handsets only to be used as an extension line based on a IP-PBX system or SIP server function. Fusion is now the first carrier to assign each handset an 050 number, thereby providing a mobile IP-Centrex system that allows each handset to also be used as an IP phone to initiate and receive calls. The introduction of IP phone usage over a wireless LAN makes it even easier to adopt an IP phone system. FUSION IP-Centrex also costs much less than investing in and maintaining PBX equipment, and now adds the convenience of mobile IP phone handset use.

Companies that have been using an internal PHS system, for example, will be able to retain the convenience of the handset mobility while enjoying reduced call charges because of the IP phone system and lower costs for the IP Centrex system in comparison to PBX equipment purchase and maintenance.

Additionally, Fusion ensures voice quality through QoS, as well as uninterrupted connections through handovers and high security, providing a highly reliable Mobile IP-Centrex solution for IP phone service in a corporate wireless LAN environment.

The first compatible handset will be the Hitachi WIP-5000 wireless IP phone, but many new phones are set to become available in the near future. Fusion will continue to offer IP phone solutions that provide greater convenience to suit customers' needs.

[Features of Mobile IP-Centrex Solutions]

  1. The FUSION IP-Centrex service provides PBX and multi-button phone system functions on a corporate phone network such as internal call forwarding, call waiting, speed dial, and direct dialing, which all run on the software side using a subscriber IP soft switch (class 5 telephony switch function) on Fusion's IP network. Switching to an IP phone system eliminates all of the costs associated with PBX systems, including equipment investment, maintenance, and operation.

  2. With the introduction of the service, design changes to the existing corporate LAN can be kept to a minimum and there is no need for wiring construction to accommodate future layout changes

  3. Each handset is assigned a number beginning with the 050 prefix. At the same time, handset mobility allows calls to be received when away from one's desk or calls to be made to internal or outside numbers from anywhere on the company premises. This reduces the need for patching calls through or redialing, thereby improving operational efficiency.

  4. Roaming is possible between a head office and branch offices, allowing the use of one's personal phone when visiting another branch of the company.
