Vic Tokai and Fusion Communications Partner to Provide "Primary Telephone Service via Fiber" in Consumer FTTH Service

Vic Tokai Corporation and Fusion Communications Corporation have entered into a partnership to offer "primary telephone service via fiber" through Vic Tokai's fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service for the consumer market.

Vic Tokai will begin providing FTTH service to single-family homes and apartment complexes in Shizuoka Prefecture and the cities of Atsugi and Chiba in October 2006 using the fiber network supplied by the company's cable TV arm. In combination with this service, a "primary telephone service via fiber" will be offered that uses a 0AB~J number (Numazu City 055~, etc.) and goes through Fusion's FTTH-compatible IP-phone platform service for ISPs.

This "primary telephone service via fiber" from Vic Tokai has the following features.
(Note: Vic Tokai will announce service details officially in due time.)

  • A high-quality, low-cost IP-phone service that uses a 0AB~J number and is provided through the interconnection of Fusion's IP-phone platform and the fiber optic network of Vic Tokai's cable TV arm.
  • Can be used without changing the phone number of an NTT fixed line.
  • A 050 number can be used at the same time as a 0AB~J number, and calls between Vic Tokai's FTTH users and 050 numbers using Fusion's IP-phone service are free of charge.
  • Calls can be made to 0120 toll-free numbers and to emergency numbers such as 110, 118, and 119.
  • Compatible with Caller ID and incoming number display (equivalent to NTT's number display service).
  • Compatible with basic additional services such as call-waiting (equivalent to NTT's "catchphone" service) or the rejection of incoming calls from specified numbers or numbers without a Caller ID.
  • Cheaper than a standard NTT fixed line plus Internet charges, and if one signs up for Digital Multi-Channel Broadcasting, video-on-demand or other broadcasting or video delivery services, a discount will be available for even better rates.
  • Services unique to Vic Tokai are scheduled that take advantage of dedicated servers provided to Vic Tokai by Fusion, and promise new innovations not found in conventional telephone service.
Vic Tokai and Fusion plan to further strengthen this partnership and plan to work on developing innovative new services to provide attractive telephone services to customers using FTTH service.
