Fusion Communications Corporation and Sony Communication Network Corporation (So-net) announced today that they have tied-up to provide consumer IP telephony services. Fusion will begin trial provision of the FUSION Phone P' (Peace) service (the "Service") on August 1.
So-net currently provides the So-net Phone P' (Peace) service, a PC software telephony service that uses 050 numbers, to broadband members. With the tie-up between Fusion and So-net, Fusion will be able to provide the So-net SIP server platform and the same software telephony functions(*1) as the So-net Phone P' service. When used in combination with Fusion's Multi-Gateway service, the FUSION Phone P' IP telephony service will enable broadband users of any ISP to send and receive calls using 050 numbers.
The Service will be provided on a trial basis with the launch of a commercial service to take place in the first half of 2007. During the trial period, customers will be able to use the Service without paying any initial or monthly fees(*2). Fusion will collect information on demand for the Service and user requests and will verify functionality of the Service looking ahead to commercial use in the future.
Fusion and So-net are cooperating on investigating and verifying the potential for expanding IP telephony and video phone services to network-enabled consumer electronics and mobile devices.
(*1)Use of some additional functions provided by So-net will not be possible.
(*2)Fees will be charged for calls other than those specified as free of charge.
